Jürgen Stange

Owner and founder

Since his training in men's tailoring at the companies WISOLEK and ENGELMANN in 1961, Jürgen Stange, as the owner and founder of the Stange Berlin manufacture, has accumulated extensive experience in the field of Italian silk weaving. To this day, he continues to passionately advise his clients on stylish fashion items made of pure silk.

Dr. Andreas Bloess

Business development

Having previously worked for several years as a scientist and management consultant, Andreas Bloess has been running business development for the Stange Berlin manufactory as an entrepreneur since 2026.

History of the manufactory since 1934

1934

First opening

Wilhelm Stange, father of Jürgen Stange, founded the company in Berlin-Mitte at a time when numerous Jewish owners of the clothing industry had been forced to leave the country due to anti-Semitism. The expulsion of their most creative merchants simultaneously ended the heyday of the Berlin fashion industry.

1942

Business closure

The business had to cease production as ties and bow ties were not war-essential products.

1946

Second opening

Wilhelm Stange returned from captivity and resumed the production of ties in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. During this time, it was less about sales and more about sourcing goods, which was a daily challenge - especially during the blockade of West Berlin in 1948/1949.

1961

Training

Jürgen Stange began his training in the Berlin clothing industry at the houses for men's ready-to-wear WISOLEK and ENGELMANN. Both were successors to the former Jewish clothing companies Hermann Hoffmann and Adolf A. Stern.

1968

Collaboration

Jürgen Stange was called by his father to support him in his business. At that time, it was almost exclusively represented in West-Berlin.

1972

Closure and reopening

Wilhelm Stange closed his business, which was simultaneously reopened by Jürgen Stange and his wife Gabriele Stange in Berlin-Zehlendorf.

At that time, the product tie was considered to be marked with "no future". Therefore, the manufactory focused on the niche of bows and bow ties. Following the old tradition, the maxim was to continue to be able to tie the products of the manufactory by oneself.

Jürgen Stange decided to cooperate in sales with the company Josef A. Halbritter based in Franconia. This company sold its ties under the labels SIR HENRY, Gino Pilati, and Sepp Halbritter. The products of the Stange Berlin manufactory were now sold very successfully by the sales representatives in all federal states, Austria, Switzerland, and the Benelux countries under the labels MOD, Domino, and Querbinder, corresponding to the genre. At the International Men's Fashion Week in Cologne, which took place two to four times a year, customers from the USA, Canada, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark were also reached. The production areas of the manufactory in Berlin-Zehlendorf became increasingly scarce.

1992

New manufactory site

Shortly after the reunification of Germany, Jürgen Stange had a new manufactory built in Teltow, 4 km behind the city lines of Berlin. It was occupied in spring 1993. The sales representatives now expanded to the new federal states and also placed the products in Russia.

1996

Start of tie production

The cooperative company Josef A. Halbritter was closed. From now on, the Stange Berlin manufactory began producing ties itself, as the sales representatives did not want to forgo this revenue.

During this time, the sales of very cheaply produced ties from Asia established themselves, and high-quality brands from Europe also shifted their production to those countries of the world with lower labour costs. Of the formerly 60 tie manufacturers in Germany, only three to four companies now exist that produce in Germany or at least operate a partial production.

Stange Berlin manufactures all of its products in its manufactory in Teltow. More than half of the value creation of each product is individual handwork. It is made exclusively from high-quality Italian silk. The fabric suppliers of the manufactory produce exclusively in the city of Como and its nearby surroundings. A large part of the designs comes in form and colour design from the manufactory's own creations.

2010

First online shop

Following the general trend, the manufactory opened its first online shop. There, it was also reached by interested individuals. In the Stange Berlin manufactory, only trained professionals work, who can realise the personal and unusual requirements of customers within the product groups of the manufactory.

During a visit to the manufactory, you can receive individual advice, independently browse our stock of silk fabrics, and have your fashion accessories made from your preferred fabrics. You can expect a comprehensive stock of pure silk fabrics, a fireworks display of designs, colours, and shapes, as well as very competent service.

2014

80th anniversary

The Stange Berlin manufactory is celebrating its 80th anniversary in the second generation.

2026

Second online shop

A second online shop is being set up, which will eventually replace the existing online shop. New technological developments will enable the manufactory to improve internal processes. Customers should also be able to better perceive the versatility and capabilities of the manufactory from afar. Existing and new customers should be newly excited about our models and fabrics.
